Educational Consulting with Purpose
Regardless of age, education is most effective when the learner is an active participant. Children learn by playing, not by listening to lectures. This process does not suddenly stop at a certain age level, but continues to be part of the learning process. For math and science education, this constructivist philosophy means that curricula, learning resources, and pedagogy must support students in learning by doing.
CURRICULUM RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
It is widely accepted today that developing students' content knowledge, skills and attitudes are essential in modern mathematics and science curricula. When students are able to connect their learning to their own environment, they are better able to make the connection between the concept and their own world.
LEARNING RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
What teachers and students are able to do together in mathematics and science classes is at the heart of education. To support students and teachers alike we work with our clients to develop print and digital learning resources that are based on current education research in conjunction with input from experienced classroom teachers.
TRAINING & TEACHER INSERVICE
Changing the curriculum and learning resources alone will not improve classroom teaching practices. Hold Fast sees training and professional development as a continuing enterprise for teachers and an integral component of any curriculum change.

Hold Fast Consultants Inc. was founded by Bruce McAskill in 2003. Since then Hold Fast has worked on math and science curriculum, learning resource, and training projects locally in BC, nationally in Canada, and internationally in the USA and the Middle East.
Most recently Hold Fast has been developing educational applications to assist classroom teachers.
